Our Story

Get to Know Us

The Russian Center of San Francisco was founded in 1939 by Russian immigrants to preserve, celebrate, and exhibit the rich cultural heritage of the Russian and Slavic diaspora through community programs and events.

Our mission of preserving Slavic heritage and culture continues to this day. Our cultural programs include a museum and library, a bilingual pre-school, children's folk dance and theater classes, and annual festivals.

We welcome all individuals interested in Slavic culture and provide community building opportunities for Slavic-speaking immigrants. We strive to foster a deeper appreciation of Russian and Slavic heritage, history, language, arts and traditions to inspire future generations.

As a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we do not engage in, support, or take positions on any political matters.

A. Danich, CA

"In choosing a venue for my wedding reception, I immediately knew it had to be the Russian Center. For me, it's just like inviting guests into a second home."

Bulgare Dance Group, CA

"The Russian Center has been an incredible home for our weekly dance group. With members from all over the Bay Area, we truly appreciate its central location and welcoming atmosphere. Thanks to the accommodating and friendly staff, renting space is always a smooth and hassle-free experience. We are grateful to have a place where we can come together, dance, and celebrate our shared Slavic heritage in such a warm and supportive environment."

E. Baranoff, CA

"The Russian Center was a beautiful venue for our daughter’s wedding reception. The manager went above and beyond in assisting us, and we loved that we had access to the entire main floor. No other venue in the City provides such flexibility. We had an excellent experience and highly recommend the Center."
